This study is about the "one GOD" in the Bible. Majority of Christians believe that GOD is three in one. The question arises, is this true? Is this what the Bible actually teaches? Or has man with his philosophy distorted who GOD is? We will use the Bible and the Bible alone in these studies. There are a lot of quotes out there that could be used, but we feel that it would be better to stick to a "thus saith the Lord". This is what Jesus used against Satan in the three temptation in the wilderness.
Matthew 4:4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
Matthew 4:7 Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.
As Christians we should follow the example if our Lord and Saviour. We should only use the Bible and the Bible alone. Let us begin with the study.
We will have a look at all the verses that speak of the "one GOD"
Deuteronomy 6:4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD:
Malachi 2:10 Have we not all one father? hath not one God created us? why do we deal treacherously every man against his brother, by profaning the covenant of our fathers?
Mark 12:32 And the scribe said unto him, Well, Master, thou hast said the truth: for there is one God; and there is none other but he:
What was JESUS' response to the scribe?
Mark 12:34 And when Jesus saw that he answered discreetly, he said unto him, Thou art not far from the kingdom of God. And no man after that durst ask him any question.
JESUS did not reply and say that he was wrong and that there are three in one god. The Israelites never believed in a god that was more than one. We need to remember this, as GOD had given them the truth so they could take it to the world and to teach them who GOD was.
Romans 3:30 Seeing it is one God, which shall justify the circumcision by faith, and uncircumcision through faith.
1 Corinthians 8:6 But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.
Paul says that it is the Father who is the "one GOD". What did Jesus have to say about this?
John 17:1 These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee:
John 17:2 As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him.
JESUS is praying to the Father. This we see in verse 1.
John 17:3 And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.
JESUS calls the Father the "only true GOD"! Jesus never prayed to the Holy Spirit, or did He ever teach us to either. He taught us to pray to the Father. There is no authority in the Bible to pray to the Holy Spirit as some denominations are doing today.
Matthew 6:9 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
1 Timothy 2:5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;
The verse in Timothy does not have a three in one god here. If it did, then JESUS would be mentioned twice.
James 2:19 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.
The devils believe that there is only one GOD. The majority of the Christian world today does not even believe what the devils believe. The devils were once angels that stood before GOD, so they must know better and James says that they know that there is only one GOD. Yet again the verse does not mention three in one. GOD could have easily put this in the Bible so that there would be no confusion in who He is. JESUS Himself also says that GOD is one.
Mark 12:29 And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord:
Is JESUS not better authority than some pastor, theologian or scholar? Well of course He is better than all these! Before you say, well where did you get your degree from? Just remember that JESUS did not go to the schools of the pharisees. He too was not educated like the people that we are listening to today. Where in the Bible does it say that we need an education to understand what GOD is teaching us? This is what GOD says:
Isaiah 1:18 Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.
Let us reason with GOD. The only way to do this is through His Word, the Bible. Let us not go to man for our answers. Let us go to GOD.
The Father is GOD and He is the only one!
